Welcome to our First Communion Preparation page. We are glad you are here and look forward to working with you to prepare your child to receive First Communion!
In the Archdiocese of Atlanta, First Communion is celebrated in the 2nd Grade or older. At St. Brendan’s students can begin preparing for First Communion as early as 1st grade by completing two consecutive years of faith formation. Once the child has completed or is in their second consecutive year of faith formation then they are eligible to be registered for our First Communion Sacramental preparation program in 2nd grade or older.
Please see the requirements for First Communion listed below:
Guide for First Communion Preparation (2nd-4th Graders)
Your family must be registered parishioners of St. Brendan’s and attend Sunday Mass.
Your child must complete two consecutive years of Catholic Faith Formation
Either through attending private Catholic school or St. Brendan’s Youth Faith Formation programs as early as 1st grade.
Children attending St. Brendan’s Youth Faith Formation may not miss more than 3 classes total for Sunday/Wednesday SAIL sessions and no more than 1 class for Summer SAIL session to remain eligible.

***Nontraditional Age Students in 5th-12th:
Children in 5th through 12th grade who have not received the Sacrament of Baptism and/or First Communion, should communicate so in their registration and fall under the nontraditional track category.
Their First Communion preparation is similar in that, they would follow steps 1-5 & 10-12 from the other guide, but they have different preparation requirements as they do not complete the workbooks or attend the workshops.
5th-8th graders must attend the First Reconciliation workshop on October 12th (9:00am-12:30pm) and the First Communion Workshop on March 1st (9:00am-12:30pm). They must also complete the First Communion service project.
9th-12th graders must meet 2 times with the First Communion Coordinator to ensure their readiness to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion.
